‘I remember this moment so well.  It was 2nd February, the game shooting season had ended the previous day but the pegs were still in the fields and the memories still raw in the countryside.  I walked down the paddock to the rough grass at the bottom.  A solitary cock pheasant raised its bronzed head above the grass and looked around, it had survived the onslaught.  Now, it may find a mate and breed, enjoying the summer respite.’
