‘I came across this roe doe on the other side of the wood next to an old barbed wire fence.  She stood completely still, silently staring out over the valley as if deep in thought, her ears twitched every so often but that was all the movement I detected.  She’d obviously not heard me approach so I stood still as well, just watching.  After a few minutes she stepped forward, nibbled half-heartedly on some leaves then wandered along the hedge and disappeared into the wood.  I still wonder what she was thinking about.’
