‘It was George II who observed that a typical British summer was three fine days and a thunderstorm. I saw this one building from Overstrand; our thunderstorms either threaten then miss us completely or they stay for a long time, just hanging around on the coast.  It is said locally that thunderstorms wait for the tide to take them away, this had an ebb tide so went out to sea quickly, we’re not always that lucky in the summer.’
