‘The number of rooks around here has increased significantly in the last few years. they are noisy, quarrelsome birds for the most part, but quite fearless and fascinating.  I’ve seen them mob buzzards twice their size and drive them away from their territory, they will try to chase hobby’s and kestrels as well but with less success.  They roost in the wood and just after dusk you can hear them coming together, cawing and shrieking at each other until the correct pecking order is re-established, then peace prevails until first light.’
